New York West

We are Western New York’s local 501(c)(3) chapter of the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Foundation (HOBY). For nearly 40 years, New York West has hosted more than 130 high school sophomores annually from across Western New York to attend our “life-changing” and award-winning seminar at the University of Rochester for a three-day event where they undergo unique leadership training, service-learning and motivation-building experiences. We don’t teach students what to think, but how to think while providing them the tools to critically evaluate and develop solutions to personal, regional and global issues. Since its inception, New York West has been nationally recognized for going above and beyond, providing an outstanding experience at the highest standards set by the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Foundation at its Volunteer Training Institute:

Outstanding Leadership Seminar- Emily Ciraolo & Julie Williams, Leadership Seminar Chairs
Outstanding Recruitment- Amber Przybysz, Christian Bryant & Melissa Maxwell, Directors of Recruitment and Ambassador Relations
Outstanding Alumni Advisor- Erin Hodge, Director of Alumni Association
Excellent CLeW Advisor- Anthony Falvo, Director of CLeWs

More About HOBY

For more than five decades, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) has inspired young people to make a difference and become catalysts for positive change in their homes, schools, workplaces and communities. As America’s foremost youth leadership organization, HOBY has a long and impressive history of successfully motivating youth and volunteers to outstanding leadership.

HOBY programs are conducted annually throughout the U.S., serving local and international high school students and providing students selected by their schools to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning and motivation-building experiences.

HOBY also provides adults with opportunities to make a significant impact on the lives of youth by volunteering. More than 4,000 committed HOBY volunteers plan and execute the programs each year, serving both at the local HOBY affiliate level and on HOBY’s board of trustees. Due to the selfless efforts of volunteers and the contributions of generous donors, nearly 10,000 students participate in HOBY programs annually.

Today, more than 400,000 proud alumni make HOBY stronger than ever. HOBY alumni are leaders in their schools and communities, throughout the U.S. and the world, making a difference for others through service. Want to see the impact of HOBY firsthand? Join our team of volunteers!

Founded in 1958 by actor Hugh O’Brian (better known for his role on television as Wyatt Earp), HOBY’s mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.
