These were the words that rang in my ears on my flight back to Buffalo from Dulles International Airport where I had just attend the World Leadership Congress with more than 500 hundred other students.
This experience along with many other experiences with HOBY changed my perspective on life. Before HOBY, I was involved in very little besides school itself. After HOBY, I became very engaged in what was happening around me, and realized that I could truly make a difference. I believe the changes that HOBY instilled upon me is the reason I was able to get into my college alma mater Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute after high school.
Since HOBY has given me so much in my life, I make sure I always have time to give back to it. I am an alumnus of the 2004 program at New York West, and I have been involved with it ever since. Currently, I live in Scranton, Pa., and I make the trek to the seminar every year. And each time that I come back to HOBY, I am invigorated to want to change the world around me, and I am always amazed with how determined the youth of this program can be.
It is truly 3 days that can change your life.
